THE FIRST ERA OF CUBISM. Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque first met in 1905, but it wasn't until 1907 that Picasso showed Braque what is considered the first Cubist painting, Les Demoiselles d The Art Deco movement 'cast aside the dictats of the past', says decorative arts historian Melissa Gabardi. Art Deco jewels were sleek and bold, characterised by sharp edges and regularity of surface, line and volume. The years 1910-1940 are considered by many experts to be the golden era for Cartier. We've followed the decorating choices in American homes from the luxe look of Art Deco through the austerity of World War II, the Atomic Age exuberance of the 1950s, and into a new century where tech makes our homes as smart as the homes on The Jetsons.The neo-Louis XVI style was really popular in France and Romania in the years before WW1, around 1910, and it heavily influenced multiple early Art Deco designs and buildings. A good example of this is the Château de Sept-Saulx in Grand Est , France, by Louis Süe , 1928-1929.
Since the sixties, Art Deco has been named and understood as an important style, which was not to be disparaged, but was to be appreciated on its own terms which were part of its time, those few fragile years between the Wars. In the 1920s, many women who found success, however, limited, and recognition, however brief, did so in new fields
One such is the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A wealth of decorative and domestic items was produced in the art nouveau style with one British designer, Archibald Knox, being a significant contributor with his designs for the London store, Liberty's. Items designed by Knox and others bear the SBbbcpv.
